READ KATIE’S STORY
Hi, I’m Katie, and I’m studying Art and Design Level 3. What I love most about my course are the fantastic facilities. The college has a wide Range of resources, and I’ve really enjoyed exploring all the art studios and equipment. It’s through these facilities that I discovered my passion for ceramics. The college has given me the space and tools to develop my skills and find what I love to do.
Before I started the course, I didn’t know much about ceramics. Now, I’ve learned how to throw pots, create both small and large pieces, and experiment with different techniques. It’s been a really rewarding journey. One of the most satisfying things isn’t just completing a project, but the process itself. Over three months, I’ve gone from having no skills to creating quite sophisticated pieces, and that progress feels fantastic.
Looking ahead, I want to continue working with ceramics. I don’t have definite plans yet, but I want to keep developing my skills and passion. While I would love to go straight into paid work doing what I love, I understand I might need to do more education first. However, my main goal is to keep creating and possibly make a career from my art.
This college has also given me amazing opportunities outside the classroom. I was lucky enough to go on a trip to New York with the college. It was part of a broader arts trip that included dance, drama, and visual arts. We explored Broadway shows and visited museums, which was a fantastic experience. Even though the trip wasn’t specifically tailored for the Fine Arts course, I found it incredibly inspiring. Seeing the architecture, sculptures, and art in such a vibrant city sparked new ideas and creative energy.
Beyond just art, I think traveling and visiting different places around the world helps you learn about different cultures and ways of life. It broadens your perspective and gives you new inspiration for your work and your life
My peers and staff have been a huge support along the way. Hannah, my course leader, has been especially helpful in guiding me to improve and develop my work. She’s always there to offer advice and encouragement, which has made a big difference in my learning experience.
