READ FELIX’S STORY
Hi, I’m Felix, and I study Motorsport. What I enjoy most about my course is working hands-on with the cars. I learn a lot better by doing practical tasks, and I find it really rewarding to get stuck into the work. I also enjoy the theory side of things because I’ve always been passionate about racing. In fact, I used to race myself, and understanding how to make a car faster has always fascinated me.
My dream is to become a mechanic for a high-end race team, whether that’s rallying, endurance racing, or even Formula One. To achieve that, I plan to continue my studies by progressing onto the HND here at college to deepen my understanding of the sport. I also want to build on my work experience and secure more opportunities in the industry.
I’ve been gaining practical experience through weekly work placements at Historic Motorsport Southwest, where I work on historic rally cars, setting up, restoring, and building. This has really widened my skill set and increased my confidence in working with different types of vehicles and equipment. It’s been an invaluable experience that’s helping me prepare for my future.
When I first started college, I was a bit shy because I didn’t know anyone and was from quite a way away in Exeter. But now, I’ve made some great friends, and I really enjoy my time here. It’s exactly what I hoped for. I’ve also had the chance to go on trips, like last year’s visit to the NEC Autosport Show, which was fantastic. I saw some incredible cars and learned even more about the industry I love.
I chose this college because of its excellent facilities and because I was inspired by what ex-students have achieved after completing their courses. Seeing their success convinced me I could do the same.
